Teen killed, another injured after struck by drunk driver, man arrested

LEHI, UT – A teenage girl died and her brother suffered major injuries after they were struck while walking on a sidewalk in Lehi last month.

The driver responsible, 31-year-old Alexis Javier Garcia-Torres, was arrested on Thursday in connection to the fatal crash.

The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. on March 4 near the intersection of 2100 North and 3600 West reports KSL News. Two teenage siblings were walking along a sidewalk when the driver jumped the curb and struck them both, throwing them approximately 100 feet.

The 15-year-old girl was killed and her 13-year-old brother was hospitalized in critical condition. He suffered multiple pelvic fractures, road rash, and bruising.

Garcia-Torres was taken into custody at the Utah County Jail on Thursday. He faces several charges including automobile homicide, attempted automobile homicide, criminal negligence causing death, driving on a suspended license, two counts of DUI causing serious injury, drug possession, and reckless driving.
