Narrative

LAYTON, UT – A 67-year-old crossing guard sustained fatal injuries Tuesday when a vehicle hit him at a Layton intersection.

The accident happened in the morning at a crosswalk near Vae Elementary, which is on the northwest side of the city.

Police say that a car failed to stop for the crossing guard’s stop sign at the intersection of Main Street and West 1600 North and struck him in the roadway.

The man died at the scene. Authorities identified him as Steven Winn.

No students were injured in the accident.

It’s unclear if the driver of the vehicle involved in the wreck will face charges.

A full investigation is underway.
