Narrative
MONTICELLO, UT – One person died Tuesday in a two-vehicle collision along the highway in east-central San Juan County.
The accident happened in the evening on US-191 in the city of Monticello, which is just southeast of Canyonlands National Park.
Police say that the driver of a pickup truck changed lanes and collided with an 18-wheeler. It’s unclear if this was a wrong-way crash, or if the driver was simply attempting to change lanes.
The driver of the pickup sustained fatal injuries. Authorities have not yet released their name to the public.
Officials closed both sides of US-191 while crews worked to clear the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
