MEXICAN HAT, UT – A single-vehicle crash just south of Mexican Hat claimed the life of one man and left two children seriously injured on Friday morning.
The crash occurred shortly before 2 p.m. when the driver of a Kia Optima, 49-year-old Joel Ashike from Kaibito, Arizona, failed to negotiate a curve at the Jason R. Workman Memorial Bridge on US-165 and collided with a cliff wall.
Ashike was pronounced dead at the crash site. His two juvenile passengers were airlifted to a local hospital with serious, potentially life-threatening injuries.
